Waterproofing of Basement Built into Hillside (Newbuild)
This 1500m2 basement formed part of a housing scheme in Richmond, North Yorkshire. The basement was built into a hillside and was formed using contiguous piling.
A combination waterproofing system was chosen with Vandex Super crystalline active waterproofing slurry used to waterproof the slab and Oldroyd Xv cavity drainage membrane used on the piled walls. Other products used on the project include Aquadrain perimter drainage channel, Vandex BB75E and Vandex Construction Joint Tape.
The basement waterproofing work was carried out to BS8102 by specialist waterproofing contractor, Brick Tie Preservation who also issued a 20 year GPI insurance-backed guarantee to cover the work.
The project provides a good example of how cavity drainage (BS8102 Type C) and cementitions (BS8102 Type A) waterproofing systems can be combined in a single project.
